The short answer is there is NO difference at all between BEAUTYbits® and ENERGYbits®. They are exactly the same – it’s just a branding/packaging difference.

The reason why we have two spirulina algae brands is because our Founder/CEO (Catharine Arnston) started our company in 2010 as a result of her younger sister developing breast cancer (see the attached founders story). As a result, women’s health is very important to her and to our company.

But for the first couple of years of our operations we noticed that women weren’t purchasing our algae. It was primarily men. So, Catharine asked some of her women friends why women weren’t buying our algae and they told her the name and blue packaging of ENERGYbits® was too masculine.

Since Catharine wanted women to be healthy too, and since the high concentration of protein and antioxidants helps improve skin and hair health, she decided to create a second brand of spirulina, package it in pink and give it a fun, name, BEAUTYbits® that would be more welcoming to women. And it was. Just these two small changes made a big difference. Now we sell to as many women as we do men.

Algae is the most healthy, natural, and nutrient dense food in the world and will improve the health and vitality of anyone who takes it –especially women so we wanted to do our best to help them feel comfortable.

VITALITYbits are a combination of ENERGYbits and RECOVERYbits – 50% spirulina and 50% chlorella algae. The benefit of taking VITALITYbits is that you’re getting some of each algae, in one tablet. You are not able to customize the amounts of spirulina and chlorella like you would be if taking them separately. We do recommend both spirulina and chlorella for their varying health benefits and VITALITYbits are a great option should you only want one product and the benefit of both algaes.

Our tablets are each 0.25 grams (250mg) of algae. A serving of 30 tablets of spirulina algae provides 5 grams of amino acids which is the equivalent of 50 grams of animal protein. This is why spirulina algae is the most efficient source of protein in the world. It is 99% bioavailable within just a few minutes.  

This high availability and high efficiency contrasts to animal protein which often takes up to 3 days for your body to break it down to amino acids (so the aminos can be absorbed). During this long process, many of the aminos get lost so often you end up absorbing just 10% of them ie. 5 grams as aminos. The net effect is that a serving of 50 grams of animal protein often provides just 5 grams of aminos which is exactly the same amount of aminos that you get from 30 tablets of spirulina. All of our products are labeled with an expiration date of 2-3 years from the time it is harvested. This date is stamped on the back of each bag. While this is a requirement, the cool thing is that algae actually has a much longer shelf life and virtually never goes bad when kept out of direct heat/light.

To maintain lasting freshness, we recommend that you store your bag in a cool dry place away from sunlight, or in the refrigerator. One of our canisters is a great receptacle for storing and dispensing your daily algae regimen.

Our algae tablets are not made with any sort of tablet “coating”, so whether you choose to swallow them or chew them, your body will absorb the tablets just the same!

It’s important to note that not all proteins are created equally. Proteins are comprised of amino acids, and while the body naturally produces 12 amino acids, nine must be obtained from food sources. These nine amino acids are referred to as the “essential” amino acids and proteins that contain all of the essentials are called “perfect” proteins. Spirulina is a perfect protein. It’s an excellent option for those who are interested in upping their protein intake without taking on excessive calories, carbs or fats in the process.

Spirulina has more protein comparatively by weight than steak. So, if you were to take ENERGYbits and weigh them out equal to the weight of a piece of steak it will have more protein and is more bioavailable protein. You can up your intake of algae for more protein, they are a food so you can take all you wish!

Both chlorella and spirulina are so dense in nutrition that one tablet can replace the micronutrition content of a whole plate of vegetables. 10 tablets is equal to the micronutrient content of about 5.5 lbs of various vegetables!

In fact, when comparing by weight, each tablet contains the following:

Our usual recommendation is to take ENERGYbits® in the morning/before a workout/afternoon since spirulina is an energizing algae. We recommend RECOVERYbits® at night since chlorella is a detoxifying algae, and your body detoxes the most while sleeping. That being said, you can take algae at any time of day and still receive all the same health benefits!

We sell two different algae and what they do in your body is as different as night and day. All our algae tablets are grown organically, are NON-GMO and have just one ingredient and one calorie and NO binders, sugar, caffeine, chemicals, soy, gluten or anything artificial. We recommend including both types of algae in your diet.

ENERGYbits® are SPIRULINA ALGAE - a blue green algae. Spirulina will satisfy hunger and deliver a steady stream of energy and focus to consistently and naturally improve your vitality, mental acuity, and overall endurance and performance.

RECOVERYbits® are a CHLORELLA ALGAE - a green algae. Chlorella will remove toxins, build your immune system, prevent colds, slow aging, remove muscle pain and lactic acid, speed recovery from workout or injury.

VITALITYbits® are 50% spirulina and 50% chlorella so you get a bit of all the above benefits. Since each tablet is half and half it is half the amount of taking the full product on its own, so 20 VITALITYbits has the equivalent of 10 tablets of spirulina, but also contains the equivalent of 10 tablets of chlorella.

BEAUTYbits® are the same as ENERGYbits (spirulina) and I would be happy to send you an explanation about why we have two products that are the same.

Incorporating spirulina or chlorella into your fasting routine typically does not interfere with the fasting process. Both spirulina and chlorella are nutrient-dense algae known for their numerous health benefits, and they can complement fasting in several ways.

Firstly, these algae are low in calories and carbohydrates, which means they are unlikely to trigger a significant insulin response that could disrupt the metabolic state of fasting. This allows individuals to continue reaping the benefits of fasting, such as improved metabolic health and weight management.

Moreover, spirulina and chlorella are rich sources of essential nutrients, including vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Additionally, spirulina and chlorella contain compounds such as chlorophyll and phycocyanin, which have been shown to have anti-inflammatory and detoxifying properties. We test our algae every year and we use different labs to test for different things. Our most recent metals testing was in February 2022. We did nutritional testing August 2022, and our most recent micro-toxin testing was October of 2023. However, we do not email the tests to prevent the tests from being altered. It’s unfortunate that there are people out there who would do such a thing, but it does happen. Note that we have been sourcing our algae from the same growers in Taiwan for over 10 years, so we are confident in the consistent quality of their crops

The only thing to note is that because chlorella algae is a detoxifying algae, we recommend taking chlorella 2 hours before or after medications/supplements. There is a small chance it could detect an ingredient in any medications or other supplements as a “toxin” and interfere with absorption. Spirulina should be safe to take at any time.
